My Honest Review Of The New Birchbox

If you haven’t heard yet,  just announced that they’re raising the price of their monthly subscription from $10/month to $15/month. In exchange for the higher price, they’re promising better merch, more choices, and new personalization options. I was lucky enough to snag an April box early to see if the new box lives up to all the hype. Here’s my HONEST review of the new April box.

The first thing I noticed about this box is that there are SIX samples instead of the usual FIVE. This definitely increases the value of the box. The second thing I noticed is that the samples are ALL from very high quality brands and seem to be a larger average size. The samples I received are:

Sunday Riley Luna Retinol Sleeping Oil

This is actually the first time I’ve tried this product, but I’ve had great results from Sunday Riley products in the past. I have friends that swear by this night serum for plump, smooth, luminous skin, so I’m extremely excited to test it out. Sunday Riley is a notoriously expensive brand, so this is a big win in my book.

Tarte Glossy Lip Paint

I’m excited to see Tarte in my box! I don’t think I’ve ever received Tarte from Birchbox before. I love the Glossy Lip line, and this color perfectly matches my tone palette. The formula glides on so smoothly but is practically weightless.

R+CO Cleansing Foam Conditioner

This is a huge sample size! I’ll definitely get several washes out of it. Cleansing conditioners are very trendy right now, but I haven’t had much success with them yet. I hope this one lives up to the hype.

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

I’ve bought this mascara before and I LOVE it. It gives my lashes a major curl for that wide-eyed look. The formula itself is super satiny, doesn’t smudge at all, and (because I’m a nerd and care about these things) I love that it contains B5 which conditions your lashes!

Oribe Texturizing Spray

This texturizing spray is great because it is also a dry shampoo. I wear dry shampoo every single day so I’m really thankful to Birchbox for sending me this. I also love this brand because their entire line has a gorgeous beachy scent.

Dr.Jart Ceramidin Face Cream

People love Dr. Jart products because they are a Korean beauty brand that focuses on bringing “healthy beauty” to women around the world. This cream apparently boosts your skin’s natural ability to retain moisture, so it’s not just about the appearance of hydrated skin, but also about making your skin healthier in the long run. It feels really great on my skin and I imagine that it will be great for when I travel.

The Verdict

Overall, the products in this box are a better quality and quantity than in the last box. I’m also really excited about the updated personalization algorithm, and more box customization options. Overall, I think the price increase is worth the great changes coming to Birchbox. Afterall, it’s only $15. That’s about as much as I would pay for one mascara at the drugstore!
