Let’s get one thing out of the way right now: I love TV. It doesn’t matter what kind, either. I can get invested in lighthearted comedies, tense dramas and pretty much everything in between. If you can give me a compelling story, I am all in. If you give me a compelling story with an incredible cast, an amazing score, and relatable characters then I’ll want to tell the world about it. Which brings us to Power, one of the best shows on STARZ.
If you’re not familiar with Power then let me give you a quick rundown: James St. Patrick, a.k.a. Ghost, is a classic rags-to-riches business man. He has single-handedly built his nightclub, Truth, up to be one of the most popular and successful clubs around. The only problem is that Ghost is also living a double life as one of New York City’s most powerful drug kingpins. He walks this tightrope for years until he realizes he wants out of the drug game so that he can realize his dream of being a legit Fortune 500 CEO. Of course, things are never quite that easy. Unfortunate for Ghost, but great news for us as it makes for some amazing television.
All the credit in the world goes to Curtis Jackson, (or 50 Cent as you might know him) for his amazing work producing AND acting in this gem. The whole cast knocks it out of the park, but if you ask me Omari Hardwick and Naturi Naughton’s turns as James and Tasha St. Patrick are particularly exciting and certainly awards-worthy.
If you haven’t caught this one yet, I’ve got good news for you: STARZ comes with a 7-day free trial. That’s more than enough time to binge watch a season or two. And this show rates through the roof on the “bingeable television” scale. You probably won’t be able to get through all five seasons, which is fine because a STARZ subscription is only $8.99 a month. I won’t name names but that is cheaper than a few other subscription services out there. Seriously, my Taco Bell order is usually more than that.
“But I’m always on the go and don’t have time to sit down and watch hours of TV”, you might say. I’m right there with you. In fact, I’d say that less than half of my time watching shows is spent on the couch in front of the TV. I’m usually traveling, which means I take advantage of the fact that I can watch STARZ on my laptop and phone, so basically wherever I go. Plus, since I’m all caught up on Power, I can check out some of their other great shows like American Gods or Counterpart.
TL;DR – Watch Power, it’s awesome.Get STARZ, it’s free for a week, ridiculously affordable, and you will never be more than a few clicks away from some of the best shows on television.
