American Gods: The Perfect Show for Power Fans

When you think STARZ, you probably think of the 50 Cent-produced mega-hit, Power. Power is an excellent show in its own right, with plenty of action, drama, sex and violence to go around. 

However, STARZ has another hidden gem – American Gods, with it’s 2nd season premiering on March 10th.  If you love Power, you should definitely be watching American Gods too.

Here’s why:

1. Both shows feature strong African-American leads. In an age where the entire entertainment industry is under fire for lack of diversity, STARZ rises to the occasion. Certainly, Omari Hardwick and Ricky Whittle play fundamentally different roles, but both tell a more diverse story than we’re used to on television. And for that, STARZ, we thank you. 

2. In both shows, the underdog rises to the top of the game. Ghost, who came from nothing, rises to become the “biggest goddam drug dealer in New York City”.  For Shadow Moon, the change is more accidental: after his wife’s tragic death and time in prison, he takes a risk going with Mr. Wednesday and suddenly finds himself caught in the middle of an epic battle between New and Old Gods. 

3. If you liked the sex & violence in Power, believe me, you’ll love American Gods. The first episode features (in no particular order): a viking warrior decimated by thousands of arrows, a goddess devouring a man via her vagina, and an epic fight between Shadow Moon and a leprechaun man. Enough said.
